The Perm & The Skullet is a non-profit music blog devoted to bringing you music of all kinds.
Although we prefer that rustic, acoustic, unusual, whiskey soaked sound, we do like music of all styles and genres. If you have something you think we should listen to, by all mean, let us know.
All Links and MP3s are for sampling, evaluation, and introduction purposes only and are intended to provide exposure to said artist / film / site etc...
If you like it, please go buy it.
Online, we recommend Insound, emusic or directly from the artist or their label. Locally, we recommend Schoolkids Records or Bull City Records.
Most Mp3 samples are only available for a limited time, usually a week or two. If there is something you missed, and it is currently unavailable or out of print, please let us know and we can see what we can do.
MP3s, Links, and Images can easily be taken down, so if you are the owner or their representation, and would like said link or file removed, just let us know and we'€™ll be happy to do so. You can E-mail me directly here for any questions or concerns or submissions.

Quote by: Will Oldham
“As soon as it becomes your profession to critique a book, or movie, or record then, not only do you lose your passion for it, but it loses validity for whoever you’re trying to turn it onto because they’re going to be approaching it from a consumer’s point of view, not from a professional writer’s point of view.”

Matt Sharp + The true return of The Rentals
Well, Saturday morning, too early by the way, but up and listening to music and enjoying that first cup of coffee. Matt Sharp rolled across my path and I figured why not post about this truely underrated musician. We all know about Weezer and then his stint with The Rentals, but following that, after a long reclusive stay in Tenn., he released two albums, an ep entitled Puckett's Versus the Country Boy and then a full length s/t album. You can read a write up about both albums at the label In Music We Trust Records, and a good interview with Glorious Noise. You can purchase the album from cdbaby or it's also available for download on emusic. A vinyl import is also available through Glitter House. Below are two tracks for your listening pleasure. Enjoy.
Just Like Movie Stars (from S/T lp) Goodbye West Coast (from Puckett's ep)

Also for those who may be interested, The Rentals are back together and "HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE UNEXPECTED AND TRUE RETURN OF THE RENTALS. THE BAND IS CURRENTLY IN LOS ANGELES WRITING, REHEARSING, AND PREPARING TO RECORD THEIR 3rd STUDIO ALBUM.
THE SPECULATION IS THAT THE NEW ALBUM IS LIKELY TO BE COMPLETED AND READY FOR RELEASE IN 2006. IN THE MEANWHILE, WHILE WE WAIT WITH GREAT ANTICIPATION FOR THE NEW MUSIC, THIS WEB-SITE WILL DEDICATE ITSELF TO SHOWING THE FIRST EVER COMPLETE RETROSPECTIVE ON THE RENTALS. THERE WILL BE NEARLY DAILY UPDATES WITH TOTALLY NEW AND EXCLUSIVE INFORMATION ON THE RENTALS, SO STAY TUNED AND WELCOME ABOARD." -Front page of The Rentals Website
Check out their Website and their My Space for the latest updates and release dates.
